The President's Lady (1953)

Director:     Henry Levin

Starring:     Charlton Heston (Andrew Jackson), Susan Hayward (Rachel Donaldson), John McIntire (John Overton), Fay Bainter (Mrs. Donaldson), Whitfield Connor (Lewis Roberts), Carl Betz (Charles Dickinson).

Andrew Jackson (Charlton Heston) takes a wife (Susan Hayward) with a past.  The story is based on the Irving Stone novel.

Jackson's real world wife did indeed have a past and it was thrown up to him during the election.  The attacks were nasty indeed and Jackson resented it greatly.  It was also to have an impact on latter actions of the president, namely in the Eaton Affair.
